Also known as the "herb of grace," is a small, evergreen shrub. Rue can thrive even where garden soil is poor and makes an attractive, compact, plant; however, its scent can be somewhat unpleasant at times. Rue has a very bitter taste, much like blue cheese. It was once used in soups, stews, and poultry dishes, and today is still used in the Italian brandy "Grappa." But for the most part, rue doesn't see much use in foods today.
